As I couldn’t find a suitable voice keyer for SmartSDR on Windows, I decided to develop my own.

What is Twigger?

Twigger is very very lightweight logger. The radio-connection can be made via TCI or OmniRig. It stores all logged contacts in a SQLite database.

If you need the logged contacts in your main logger, you can import the adif-file or also activate UDP-Output. Each contact will be sent via UDP in N1MM XML-Format.

Real-time uploads to Clublog and QRZ.com is also available.

What is Cluster-TCI-Bridge?

If your logger does not support sending spots via TCI (to Thetis) you can use Cluster-TCI-Bridge to that job for you!

Main-Features:

• connection to TCI or Hamlib (can be disabled if you run a radio without TCI)

• multiple telnet-clusters can be configured (all configured telnet-connections running in parallel)

• hide spots (do not send via TCI) based on mode (all bands) and/or based on band (all modes)

• hide spots based on mode on band

• hide spots based on continent, country (dx and/or spotter)

• set default spot color for TCI-Spots in Thetis

• set spot colors based on search string (or list of strings comma separated) for dx-callsign, comment or country

• send text-filtered spots via UDP – to use it in Thetis mmio/multimeters

• will send extended spot data (spotter, heading, continent, country, spot-age) if not disabled in Setup (needs Thetis 2.10.3.9 or newer)

Note:

The whole adif file is only processed once upon initial startup. Afterward, only modified (new) QSOs are imported.
If the adif file contains a large number of QSOs (mine has approximately 42,000 QSOs), the initial import may take 1-2 minutes. During this process, the Telnet cluster modules are not started (to prevent “incorrect” spot colors from being sent via TCI).
For each spot, the following checks are performed:

• Station already worked on band and mode => color green

• New DXCC on band => color indigo red

• New DXCC (new one) => color red

The colors are used for TCI-Spots and in the spots table.

To bring the data from the Telepost LP100A to Thetis (or as alternative for the original VCP) , I have written a small tool called “LP100A-UDP-Bridge”.

The tool connects via serial port to your LP100A controller and sends the received data (fwd, reflected pwr, swr,z, phase) via UDP (XML) to a specific port. You can disable UDP output via settings – to use it standalone.

In Thetis you can setup a Multi Meter I/O connection (UDP, direction “in”, format XML). The data can be used in the MultiMeter system.

Manuel Kasper (HB9DQM) created the wonderful HamAlert system (https://hamalert.org/ ) which informs you – using various criteria – about new spots.

You can currently be notified via app notification (HamAlert app) via SMS, via Threema and via Telnet (Due to the enormous costs of mailing, Manuel decided some time ago to deactivate mailing – which makes sense). Details see also https://hamalert.org/destinations.

I wrote a small Windows (Win10/11) program for the telnet server that Manuel offers: “HamAlert Cluster Client”.

You can use this to be informed about new spots on your Shack PC (via taskbar notification).

The video embedded below shows a high-level overview of the features.

The program does not need to be installed in Windows. Simply download, unpack and start. Runs on Windows 10/11.
(The zip-file contains 2 files: Hamalert-Cluster.exe and NewtonSoft.json.dll. Both files should be located in the same directory).

With V 1.0.1 I have added a logfile. Which logs all the magic stuff into a text-file (located in the same directory, where HamAlert-Cluster.exe is started).

Important notice:
Please make sure, that you have activated “Telnet” in the actions of your trigger on hamalert.org

If it does not work, open the program, goto settings and activate create debug log. After a restart a logfile is created in the same directory. Please send me this logfile (Email address is on my page “Contact”).

As alternative software to Simon’s great RC tool for controlling LinearAmp Gemini HF-1k and Gemini DX1200, here my latest project.

• Power levelmeter with peak hold (700ms)

• radio name readout (OmniRig, TCPIP cat, TCI and UDP)

• connects to Omnirig , TCPIP-cat, TCI (by Expert SDR) or via UDP (automatic band switching)

• isAlive function for Radio-Connection and Amplifier connection

• automatic reconnect, if connection (radio or amplifier) is back online

• no popups or message boxes to click

• configurable timeouts for send/receive/connect and for queries to the amplifier

• if programm is running (or not), you can call “GeminiMultiControl.exe /standby” or “GeminiMultiControl.exe /run”… If application is running, it executes the commands, if not it starts up the application.

• all Gemini basic functions (Antenna select, band select, power select, trip reset)

Installation notice:

The download file is a setup-file. It places the software into c:\program files\gemini multi control, creates a start-menu entry and a  desktop shortcut.

The software is compiled to run on Windows 10/11 64bit.

Amplifier-Connection: Please note that the TCP-Server in the Gemini amplifier only allows one connection (you can use either Simon’s tool or mine. Both at the same time is not possible). 

OmniRig: If you use OmniRig, and OmniRig is running with administration-rights, you have to start Gemini Multi Control also with administration-rights, otherwise you will not be able to connect to OmniRig.

TCPIP cat is tested via Thetis 2.9.0.8 MW0LGE. Please checkout latest version of  Thetis: https://apache-labs.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3817

TCI is tested via Thetis 2.9.0.8 MW0LGE and SunSDR2 pro (ExpertSDR3 1.0.4 beta)

I wrote the software for my purposes. It is not an official tool from LinearAmp. Everyone is free to use my remote control tool. If you don’t like it please use another amplifier remote software.

Recently I replaced my manual Palstar AT2K with an fully automatic antenna tuner from mAT. It is the model mAT-1500.

Unfortunatly this tuner does not support 160m (my fault). Also it makes some noise, while transmitting with high power. The hardware seems to be good quality and the price is fair. A little drawback is also, that there is only one button (short press toggles tune/bypass, long press starts a tuning cycle)…

At GB-Antennes I found a used Palstar AT-AUTO (2017 model) in perfect mint condition for a very fair price 🙂

The Palstar AT-AUTO is a fully autonomous, fully automatic antenna tuner that employs an embedded microprocessor to position a conventional roller inductor and a split-stator variable capacitor. It provides continuous coverage tuning from 1.8 – 54 MHz and is rated for 1500 W continuous carrier operation.

In automatic mode it is possible to connect the tuner via RS232 to the radio. The tuner follows the frequency of the radio and operates completely automatic. In my case I used a USB-RS232 converter and “connected” it to Thetis.

No more relay-clicking noise in my shack 🙂
